Stuart Hills
Stuart Hills is a founding partner of APPARATUS Architecture. After receiving his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Virginia Tech, Stuart worked in Switzerland for Architect Rudy Hunziker on residential and commercial projects throughout southern Europe. In 1991 Stuart moved to the bay area and worked for award winning firms in Marin and Sonoma Counties. Stuart continues the tradition of the California modern movement in his architecture by emphasizing the honest expression of materials, integration of the landscape into day to day living and common sense energy efficiency. Fluent in Italian, Stuart makes yearly trips to Italy to study European design and architecture.
Michael Baushke
Michael Baushke is a founding partner of APPARATUS Architecture and has been practicing architecture in the San Francisco bay area since 1989. His background includes a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Tech and past collaborations with architectural firms in Switzerland and the San Francisco area. Michael specializes in the design of rammed earth, “PISE”, and wood-framed structures, emphasizing the relationship of the built environment with the natural. His work is influenced by extensive travel in Europe and Asia undertaken as an SOM Traveling Fellow in 1988 and continuing to the present.
